Cadillac (11)

The only thing constant about the Cadillac vehicle lineup lately is change. Beyond the news that its flagship CT6 is going away after this year, the brand’s crossover lineup is getting a major revamp.

Brand new for 2019 was the XT4, Cadillac’s entry in the hot category of compact crossovers. Then the three-row crossover XT6 (a 2020 model) was just unveiled at NAIAS in January.

Right in the middle is the OG of the crossover lineup, the XT5 (known in its former life as the SRX), a midsize luxury crossover competing against heavy hitters like the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Lexus RX.

I recently spent some time in a 2019 XT5 and I’m back with a full report on how it measures up to the competition.

Some vehicles, I really look forward to driving. Others, not so much.

And then, there are the special ones. The ones that have something the others just don’t. The ones in which you truly enjoy every minute behind the wheel.

The 2019 Cadillac CTS-V is one of those special ones, a vehicle aimed squarely at people who love exploring just how much a motor vehicle can do.

Aimed at a very niche market of enthusiasts and taking on tough competitors from the other side of the pond, Cadillac needs to come with its A-game on this performance offering.

Close your eyes and think of a large, luxury vehicle.

It’s very likely that a vision of a Cadillac Escalade popped into your head -- probably a black one like the one I recently tested.

This brand and model has become synonymous with the lifestyles of those who can legitimately call themselves a boss, those who need to have a sharp vehicle to show around clients and associates.

And on the domestic front, families looking to be the most blinged-out drivers in the school dropoff line have been known to seek out the Escalade, too.

Basically a tricked-out version of the GMC Yukon XL or Chevy Suburban, it’s become a symbol of success. But the question is -- is that reputation merited, and how does the vehicle compare to other luxury SUVs?

When it comes to high-end vehicles, there are luxury sedans, and then there are flagship luxury sedans -- the creme de la creme full-size vehicles that will shine brighter than the rest of the crowd.

For Cadillac, that flagship is the Cadillac CT6, which has been around since 2016 and competes against the likes of the Audi A8, BMW 7 series, Lexus LS, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. That’s stiff competition, but after testing a 2018 CT6 I can say with confidence that Cadillac pulls through in style, power and technology to make it a very fair fight. Read on for a full report.

Luxury sedans come in all shapes and sizes; some meant for carrying the whole family and others meant for driver experience and limited cargo. In this second category, you will find the 2017 Cadillac ATS coupe, which I recently was able to test.

While not practical for families, the compact ATS coupe continues to be a  great choice if you’re looking for a thrilling and responsive ride and aren’t going to carry many passengers. Read on for a full breakdown.

LOOKS

Visually, Cadillac has not changed the look of the ATS, its entry level luxury ride, much in the past five years. That’s OK, because it looks pretty sharp. The exterior offers distinct lines and creasing that make it uniquely Cadillac. It’s one of the vehicle lineups on the roadways that don’t blend in with the competition.

Inside, you can choose either leatherette (synthetic leather) or leather seating materials. There’s a nice dash of wood trimming to complement the equally sharp interior design, which is up there with the best in the class in terms of high-end look and feel.

The definition of the word flagship is: 1. the ship in a fleet that carries the commanding admiral. 2. The best or most important thing owned or produced by a particular organization.

As the brand undergoes a lineup transformation, Cadillac has unveiled its new flagship sedan, the Cadillac CT6 (not to be confused with the shorter CTS). After spending a week in the CT6, I must say the definition is fitting. If this was a fleet of ships, the CT6 would most definitely be the admiral, and it is the best and most important thing Cadillac currently produces.

The introduction of the CT6 comes as Cadillac works to firm up its position in the luxury car marketplace against the usual foreign brands that dominate the market, and it’s a bold and necessary move.

A crossover by any other name is … not the same?

That’s the question at hand as Cadillac introduces the brand new 2017 XT5 crossover, which is the replacement for their top-selling model, the SRX. The goal, of course, is that the updated model in this category will perform even better than its predecessor.

Being a Cadillac, the XT5 is going have a get some respect right off the bat on name alone. But it still has to deliver the goods, as the luxury crossover market is extremely competitive right now.

I recently spent some time driving an XT5 and I’m back with a full report on how it fits into Cadillac’s lineup and the luxury market.

Standing out in the luxury sedan segment these days is a tough nut to crack. The best and brightest are firing on all cylinders in Germany, Japan, the U.S. and beyond, so even a big luxury name like Cadillac has to stay on top of its game to maintain its market share and try to grow.

The CTS, a longstanding model from America’s most well-known luxury car maker, gets some fresh life with the 2016 model, which is just starting to roll out of factories.

I got the chance to explore what the CTS has to offer in this new incarnation, from its design to its seemingly endless tech features, and I’m back with a full report.

Vehicles come in many shapes and sizes.

Some are small and compact, some are average-sized, some are on the larger side, and a few of them are simply gargantuan. The Cadillac Escalade, America’s longtime representative in the class of high-end luxury vehicles used by the 1 percent, is one of those vehicles that falls at the gargantuan end of that spectrum; you could seriously live in the thing.

I recently spent a week in the Escalade, and I’m back with a full report on what it offers and how it compares to its luxury SUV competitors.

Cadillac makes a variety of cars, from the ostentatious Escalade to its SRX crossover to the old standby CTS sedan which has gone strong for more than a decade.

There is also the newest and most junior member of the team: The ATS, a vehicle that’s a small package but contains quite a bit of fun under the hood. I recently spent some time in an ATS coupe and I’m back with a full report on my experience and how the ATS compares to other luxury coupe offerings.
