Ram (7)

Pickup trucks are the lifeblood of the auto industry -- with the three top selling trucks topping the charts annually with massive sales numbers, and those three trucks (Ram, Silverado, F-150) always looking to better their position.

The 2018 RAM 1500 marks the end of its current cycle, with the 2019 model launching a whole new look. But fear not, as that doesn’t mean the 2018 model is anything to sneeze at.

I recently spent some time in a 2018 RAM, and I’m back with a full report on what it offers and how it compares in a very competitive truck market.

The domestic pickup truck battlefield is not an easy one, but Fiat Chrysler’s RAM brand has a trick up its sleeve -- and it’s called diesel. While the competition might focus more on new materials being used to lighten the vehicle, or towing, or overall ride and drive quality, RAM is standing out from its competitors by offering an EcoDiesel engine and the higher fuel mileage that comes with it.

I spent some time testing a 2016 RAM 1500 Limited Crew Cab with an EcoDiesel engine, and I’m back with a full report.

LOOKS

A pickup truck should be tough and sturdy, and also look that way. RAM has you covered there, and this vehicle is fully equipped to handle your workload either at or near the level of its competitors (if you’re actually going to use it for work and not just take it to the grocery store, that is).

With seemingly everyone driving a truck or an SUV these days, it’s easy to forget about vans -- but they are still a part of the landscape in the automotive world, both full-sized and compact versions.

One such entry in this small but competitive category is the RAM ProMaster City, which I recently got a chance to test.

Competing primarily with the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan’s NV200 and the Chevy City Express, this mini version of the full-size RAM ProMaster van takes a simple approach to vanning -- lots of space and some power.

Here’s my full report after some time driving a 2015 ProMaster City.

Ram truck owners from seven U.S states and Canada helped the Ram Truck brand set a new world record for the largest parade of pickup trucks on Saturday, April 18, in Arlington, Texas. 451 Ram trucks participated in the “Ram Truck Round-up,” breaking the previous world record of 438 trucks.

“Our hard-working Ram truck owners are passionate and loyal, and today they proved once again that everything is always bigger in Texas,” said Robert Hegbloom, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ram Truck Brand, FCA – North America. “Ram is the fastest growing truck brand in Texas, where trucks are king, and it was great to see 451Ram owners travel far and wide for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of a special record-breaking rally and pickup parade.”

The Ram Truck Round-up parade route started on the east side of AT&T Stadium in Arlington and traveled approximately 3.2 miles around the stadium and neighboring Globe Life Park grounds.

Trucks are not cheap, for the most part. If you want a powerful ride to get the job done properly, you’re going to have to shell out a pretty penny these days -- regardless of the manufacturer you choose.

But that does not mean trucks have to be out of your range, as most automakers offer a variety of options in their truck lineup. Take for instance the RAM lineup from Chrysler. I recently spent some time with a couple RAM vehicles that perfectly illustrate the choices out there -- First a 2014 RAM 1500 Express regular cab 4x2 ($28,380), then a 2014 RAM 1500 Laramie Limited Edition Crew Cab 4x4 with an EcoDiesel engine ($58,015).
