Blast off with the 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Featured

Wow is a word you shouldn’t overuse.

It’s only applicable when something truly surprises and impresses you.

But in this case, when talking about the 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400, wow is the appropriate word to use. Because once you start driving this rocketship luxury coupe, you’ll find find yourself saying that word a lot.
Between its stunning looks, truly bold performance chops and tech offerings, it makes a strong claim for the crown of best luxury sport coupe. Read on for a full report.


While it hasn’t undergone a major redesign for a couple years, the Q60 (which is based on the Q50 sedan) remains one of the most attractive luxury coupes available, with its long swooping hood and sleek lines.

The interior is plush and more comfortable to driver than most sporty rides, and offers unique silver styling in the trim. A power sliding tinted glass moonroof is included, a feature that’s a must to truly enjoy this type of vehicle.

To be honest, the back seat is there for show only. As with most coupes, think of the Q60 as a two-seater.  The reality is these types of vehicles are about performance, not utility. Nobody will fit in back except maybe small children. It also has a very small trunk, even smaller than most of its competitors, so don’t plan to bring a lot of cargo.

To bring home the performance angle, the Q60 Red Sport features 20-inch aluminum-alloy sport wheels, and all-season performance tires. There are also special exhaust tips and red-painted brake calipers. The Red Sport also includes exclusive aluminum accented sport pedals.

Other options include illuminated kick plates, interior ambient lighting, and a carbon fiber package that offers carbon fiber rear decklid spoiler, exterior mirror covers, fog lamp finishers, and fender vents for just over $2K.

Examples of classy design touches are: Genuine carbon fiber on center console and doors, aluminum front door sill kick plates, chrome INFINITI Double-arch signature grille, welcome lighting on front door handles, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.


For comfort, you get: Dual occupant memory for driver’s seat, steering column and outside mirrors, power tilt and telescopic steering column, semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, heated 8-way power front sport seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Lighting features are LED all around: Automatic on/off LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, LED front turn signals and LED rear brake lights.


Power is the name of the game with the 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400. The vehicle features a stout 3.6-liter, V6 twin-turbo engine that is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. It also features a manual shift mode (with downshift rev matching) and steering wheel paddle shifters.

The big numbers on this ride are 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Even the base Q60 has 300 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft.. Rivals from Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz start between 241 and 255 horsepower, so Infiniti has this battle won handily.

Another benefit of the Q60 is that AWD is offered on all trim levels, which you don’t always see in this category.

The Q60 Red Sport, to get right to the point, is an absolute blast to drive. It’s like you’re being shot out of a rocket, and it’s so light that the vehicle responds incredibly to driver input. Zero to 60 times are roughly 4.5 seconds.

In fact, some people might even find it too light and hard to control. But those people will be few.
The majority of people who buy this type of vehicle will appreciate the type of ride it offers — it’s aimed at those who love driving and having the maximum amount of control of the vehicle.This is achieved both through its design, and features such as a Dynamic Digital Suspension, Independent front and rear suspension and sport brakes.

The Infiniti Drive Mode Selector lets you choose a mode based on the driving conditions: Sport, Sport+, Personal, Standard, Eco or Snow. It also features Hill Start Assist.


Without a doubt, you’ll look forward to getting into this vehicle every day and hitting the road.


For a sporty coupe, a segment that often skips some of the tech features, Q60 comes out impressively on the tech and safety side of things.

The RearView Monitor offers several angles to help with backing out and parking, and when parked it warns if vehicles are driving by before you open your door.

The InTouch Navigation system works well, both with touch and voice commands, getting you where you need to go without any issues and accepting input from the driver accurately.

You also get Bluetooth connectivity, hands-free texting assistant, a Bose sound system with surround sound, USB connections, satellite radio (subscription required) with traffic updates, streaming audio, two 12-volt power outlets, and remote engine start.

On the safety side, you get: Air bags throughout the vehicle (front, side and roof-mounted), front seat belts w/ pretensioners and load limiters, Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, Traction control system, Tire pressure monitoring system, and Vehicle security system and immobilizer.

One option to boost safety is the ProAssist package ($2,250), which includes: Blind Spot Warning, Backup Collision Intervention, Around View Monitor w/ Moving Object Detection, Front and rear sonar system, and rain-sensing wipers.

The official fuel mileage numbers on the Q60 Red Sport are 19 city/26 highway/21 combined.
I averaged close to 20 mpg during my time in the vehicle.

These numbers are not very impressive overall vs. vehicles from its main competitors (Audi A5, BMW 430i, Lexus RC300, Mercedes-Benz C300) in this category, but it’s no surprise considering the power numbers it offers. This is not likely to dissuade many potential buyers, who will be interested in the looks and performance of the Q60 Red Sport, not the fuel economy.

The 2019 Infiniti Q60 comes in the following trim levels: 3.0t Pure, 3.0t Luxe and Red Sport 400. The Q60 Red Sport I tested was just over $64,000; with a base price starts at $56,900. More base versions of the Q60, with 300 horsepower, start about $41K. While the Red Sport is quite pricey (that extra 100 horsepower comes with a cost), the base price of the Q60 is a value compared to the starting prices of the competition.


The 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 has several things going for it. It’s beautifully designed inside and out, it’s loaded to the gills with technology, and most importantly it’s one of the most fun vehicles available today, period.
If you love to drive, and don’t need to carry around a bunch of people or cargo, the 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 needs to be on your test drive list.
