Audi (27)

Featuring an all-new 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine, the 2018 Audi SQ5 produces 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, between a broad 1370 – 4500 rpm range. The eight-speed tiptronic transmission is well suited for the low-end torque of the turbocharged V6 and its eight gears provide quick, smooth shifts.

Every Audi SQ5 is standard-equipped with quattro® all-wheel drive, offering high-precision and dynamic handling through active torque distribution to both axles. As part of the available S sport package, the SQ5 with quattro sport rear differential can offer an even more dynamic driving experience by actively splitting torque between the wheels of the rear axle, with the ability to direct nearly all torque to one wheel, helping maximize driving dynamics.

For 2017, five Audi vehicles have earned 2017 Top Safety Pick awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2017 Audi A3 and Q7 models and the A6 with available driver assistance package earned a Top Safety Pick rating. The 2017 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating for the second consecutive year, when equipped with optional LED headlights with high beam assist (2.0T Prestige models only), as do Q5 with available adaptive cruise control and adaptive Xenon headlights (3.0T Prestige models only). The A3, A4 and the Q7 all earned a “superior” rating for front crash prevention.

For both awards, models must earn “good” ratings in the Institute’s small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention with standard or optional automatic braking. New for 2017, vehicles must also receive no less than an “acceptable” rating for headlight visibility and illumination in order to receive a Top Safety Pick+.

"This year’s Top Safety Picks for A3, A4, A6, Q5 and Q7 models speaks to our brand’s commitment to make  driver assistance and other innovative technologies available to all customers, from luxury SUVs to entry-level sedans,” said Scott Keogh, President Audi of America. “We understand that safety and technical innovations are top considerations in a new vehicle purchase and we are proud to have so many of our models recognized with these prestigious awards.”

There’s something about an Audi that’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t driven one. Call it a combination of European styling and class, and a generally welcoming feeling when you get into the vehicle. And when you’re talking about Audi’s flagship sedan, the Audi A8 L, that feeling is even more special.

This vehicle is not just a means to get you where you need to go. It’s a means to truly enjoy the drive, whether it be from the comfiness of the seats, or the joy of the ride itself, a byproduct of that ever-famous German engineering.

I had previously driven the 2015 version of the A8, and was impressed nearly to the point of perfection. So getting into a 2016, I was curious to see how it help up in an era where the top luxury brands are constantly working to outdo each other.

Cutting-edge is a word often thrown around by automakers in describing their vehicle upgrades. More often than not, it’s not quite as dramatic an improvement as they would indicate.

But sometimes, rarely, all that promotional lingo is right on the money. And a vehicle’s reimagining is truly exceptional and brings it to a new level. I recently experienced this with my test drive of the 2017 Audi Q7, the luxury SUV the German automaker that has gotten a major overhaul for the 2017 model year.

Between its new look, flawless driving experience, and seemingly endless tech additions, it impressed me to the point where I would list it atop all the other luxury SUVs in its class, and I’m here with a full breakdown of my time in the vehicle and what it has to offer.

The minute I saw the 2016 Audi TT coupe, I knew I was in for a very fun, and very dangerous, week.

It is a beautiful car, small but well-shaped and designed for speed. I knew I would love it, but that I’d also have to hold myself back from truly taking advantage of what it can do.

In the end, I avoided running afoul of the law, and had some great driving time in the process. Here’s my full report from my week with the hot rod.

The 2017 Q7 introduces Audi’s new SUV design language to both exterior and interior features, debuting an all-new lightweight, multi-material body and chassis. Through a combination of clean and simple lines, and innovative technology, the Q7 interior offers drivers and passengers alike an exceptional driving experience. Expertly-crafted double inlay dash design, available customizable ambient interior LED lighting and available segment-exclusive Bang & Olufsen® 3D Advanced Sound System further enhances the luxury of the interior. The Bang & Olufsen system delivers an impressive, life-like musical experience through 23 speakers including two retractable acoustic lenses all powered by a 23-channel amplifier with an output of 1,920 watts.

A Bose 3D Sound System is also available, which includes 19 speakers, a 15-channel amplifier and 558 watts to deliver acoustic accuracy and impact. With exceptionally competent dynamics, driver assistance systems and connectivity, the Q7 sets the benchmark for the luxury SUV segment.

Let’s be honest. When you get into the luxury realm of the modern-day automobile, they’re all pretty nice. The look and feel and style may vary, and people may be brand-loyal, but in the end it’s hard to find a dog in the bunch. But within this elite group, some vehicles still do tend to shine a bit brighter than others. Some of it can be explained by specs and performance numbers, but often it’s just something you feel when you look at a particular vehicle and get behind the wheel that draws you in.

One such vehicle that I would put in this category is the 2016 Audi A6, a midsize sedan that I would put up against any vehicle in its class. I recently spent a week in the A6, and I’m back with a full report on what makes it reach those heights.

There are fast cars.

There are really fast cars.

And then there are rockets.

The 2015 Audi S3, which I recently spent some time testing, is a rocket … and offers one of the most fun driving experiences I’ve ever had in a car.

Here’s my full report on my experience in the performance version of Audi’s A3 model.

Diesel engines are a path most automakers in the U.S. car market tend to avoid.

Sure, there are some diesel options, but the vast majority of automakers steer clear other than an occasional model -- with one notable exception. The very European lineups at Volkswagen and Audi have no fear of the diesel; and offer a large number of vehicles with diesel options here in the U.S.

I recently tested one of those optoins, the 2015 Audi A3 TDI, and I’m back with a full report on my experience.

Luxury vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, from speedy little 2-seat sports cars to rare ultra-luxe imports that only sultans and kings can afford.

Toward the upper end of what I’d consider vehicles the average affluent person can afford is the full-size luxury sedan category -- These vehicles have starting prices in the $60K to $80K range, and with added packages some of them can jump over the $100,000 mark.

But for that price, what are you getting?

I recently drove one of the strongest entries in this category -- a diesel-powered version of the 2015 Audi A8 L sedan -- and I’m back with a full report. Quick hint: There’s a lot to like.
